Filter press is a device for solid liquid separation that uses the principle of pressure feeding. It is a compact, highly efficient dewatering device for separating solids from liquid slurries in compressed cake form. It has a broad range of applications by several industries like pharma, distilleries, bulk drugs, beverages, and others.
Under positive pressure, the unfiltered liquid is fed into the filter where liquid moves in downwards direction and finds the way through opening on the Filter Plates sides. As the liquid pressure raises, the Filter media grasp the foreign particles and allows only clear filtrate to go through the central channel created by the interlocking pressure cups to the outlet. Filtration is continual until the capacity of cake holding of the unit is reached, or until the filtrate rate becomes very slow owing to resistance of cake.
Filter Press Working
The Cartridge assembly comprises plates, perforated screens, fitter media and spacers. Interlocking spacers inside create single pipeline. Unfiltered liquid is centrally fed, through bottom inlet under pressure. The liquid spreads out uniformly on each plate fixed with filter media. Solids stay on filter media, and clear filtrate flows through specifically made holes on plates’ sides and collects in the shell, and then comes out through the outlet. In this process, solids are consistently distributed on the plates. At the end of cycle the cake can be dried by using inert gas or compressed air.
